Moving the geekroom

In the interests of me not waking up at 3AM wondering if somebody's breaking into the car again, we're moving from Los Altos to Sunnyvale, which means that I've got to pack the geekroom up and set it back up again, hopefully in a more organized state. And I'd like to work some more on these things, which is why I'm adding a blog here.

I really really need to get a soldering iron, but since I've been so busy with other projects, I've put it off. I also intend to get a really good soldering iron instead of just another $5 Radio Shack Firestarter. The problem is that this means I need to get a really good one that's ESD safe or I'll spend $40 now and $80 later, when I'd rather just spend $80 now and be done with it for a while. So I'm probably going to spend a lump of money on a half-year supply of chips and bits and tools.

The big problem, of course, is figuring out exactly what I want to do next and making sure I've got the stuff for it. So I've got all of the bits I'd need to make BEAM electronics except for solar cells and the right resistor values. Things like that.

Also, I should have a little more room to work with my tools, assuming that I can avoid pissing off the neighbors. Have to see how sound-sensitive they are.

Incidentally, I've really discovered that it works best to break my site down into a few overall categories and rely on tags instead of trying to get an exact hierarchy for things. I've been re-sorting my bookmarks and it works 100 times more to have my making-stuff bookmarks separate from my other bookmarks, but it doesn't make sense to break it out into any further hierarchies. So I've been deleting hierarchies in this site...
